Sunday 1st December: Advent Sunday

Updated: Dec 14

Here are a couple of pictures from the churchyard tidy. The large compost heap speaks to all the tidying up that happened! Thank you to everyone who took part. With the Nativity scene in place it is all looking lovely.

The church is ready for Advent Sunday services too: the altar frontal is switched to purple, two trees are in place, and the Advent candle ring is set up. In the morning is our family service on the theme of hope. We ask the question ‘what are you hoping for this Christmas?’ At this service we will be blessing our travelling nativity as it starts on its journey round Tadworth homes. Please sign up on the list at the back of church to take part.

In the evening is the Advent Carol service. Several people have told me that this is their favourite of our three carol services (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany) perhaps because we don’t sing the Advent carols so often, and partly that it opens the whole Christmas season to us.

Reverse Advent Calendars

Find information about the Reverse Advent Calendars, and labels to make them, at the back of church. This is a great way to build up to Christmas by collecting and donating food and toiletries etc.. Food will be distributed through our local food banks, and toiletries distributed through the local Women’s Aid charity ‘I choose freedom’ (and supported by our MU branch).

The Travelling Nativity (Posada)

This Sunday the travelling nativity set starts its journey – La Posada – around Tadworth. Sign up at the back of church to take part and have a visit to your home. Don’t forget to bring your woolly sheep back to the Crib Service or another of the Christmas services.

Advent Calendars

These have proven popular. There are just a couple left at the back of church. They can also be bought from Church House Bookshop (https://chbookshop.hymnsam.co.uk/)

Meditations for the Twelve Days of Christmas

There are booklets at the back of church with these meditations from Christmas Day to Epiphany.

Christmas Bring and Buy, Cake Bake Sale and Raffle: Sunday 15th December

This sale takes place after the morning service on Sunday the 15th December in aid of church funds. Donations of cakes, pies, biscuits, bread, jams, preserves, fruit, etc. will be most welcome. Further details from Jean Tattam 833464.
